The short version
Choose Deepgram when you want a broad speech platform, a large developer ecosystem and general voice-agent building blocks. Choose Omi when medical terminology, drug names, dosage integrity, an included BAA path and the option to self-deploy an open medical model matter more than breadth.
Accuracy uses Omi's sealed 1,513-clip board and 89-event dosage set. Lower is better for error rates; higher is better for dosage F1. Provider prices and packaging checked against public pages on 29 August 2026.
Medical accuracy
On the same clinical English audio, Omi makes fewer medical-term, drug-name and dosage errors than the tested Deepgram Nova-3 Medical result. The overall WER difference is smaller than the domain-specific gap. That is why teams should not choose a medical ASR system on generic WER alone.
The benchmark is not a promise about every specialty or microphone. Test both systems on representative audio from your product, especially the medications, abbreviations and speaking conditions that drive risk.
Pricing and add-ons
Omi charges $0.29 per batch audio-hour and $0.45 per live audio-hour after the recurring 25-hour allowance. Medical vocabulary, diarization and timestamps are part of the published rates.
Deepgram's public pricing separates base transcription from features such as keyterm prompting and speaker diarization, and its medical launch page advertises pre-recorded pricing from $0.0043 per minute. Build a workload-specific bill rather than comparing only the first number on each card.
Free access
Deepgram's $200 introductory credit is larger for a single evaluation. Omi's 25 hours reset each month and remain included after a card is added. That makes the trade-off simple: Deepgram offers a larger one-time trial; Omi leaves a permanent lane for small clinical tools and weekend projects.
Hosted versus open
Omi exposes two deployment paths. Use omi-medical-1 through the managed API, or run the open omi-medical-edge-1 model on Mac, CUDA or CPU. The open model is not a pricing tier; it is a way to inspect the technology and keep audio inside your own environment.
